My Favorite Spring Flower: Grape Hyacinth

.
The Grape Hyacinth (Muscari) has long been my favorite Spring flower.  I love their bright purple-blue color and I love, love, love their scent.  Oh my gosh, it's intoxicating.  Looking at these photos, I can almost smell it.

The flowers may be small, but clustered tightly together they can have a big impact.

Grape Hyacinths have always reminded me of my Grandma.  I can remember her cutting them for me and wrapping them in a damp paper towel so I could take them home.  You know how a certain scent can bring you back to a memory?  That's what the smell of Grape Hyacinths do to me - they bring me right back to her kitchen.

  1. Alissa, isn't it funny how a certain scent can remind us of certain people that are either in our life or had been in our life! I love grape hyacinths! Those pictures are beautiful!

  2. Hi Alissa-

I love anything purple and have these growing in my backyard. They came up in April and are gone now. I will have to wait again till next year. Your photos as always are fabulous. I am looking forward to when your page on Photography is up. I keep checking. Do you still use a D40? or another camera?

  8. Those are gorgeous, Alissa! You are right, their smell is intoxicating! I think peonies are my favorite spring flowers. One of the main reasons is because they remind me of my Grandma too! She had tons growing in her backyard and would always have a freshly picked bouquet on her coffee table.

  19. Beautiful, and I love what you said about smells and memories. My favorite spring flower is the lilac. We don't have any in the South, and it makes me very sad. The crepe myrtle is a close cousin in looks but does not have the heady fragrance.
