.
Over Memorial Day weekend my Mom and I painted the cabinets in her half bathroom. It's a project that we have wanted to tackle for a LONG time (right Mom?!).
.
The color we used is Benjamin Moore: Mink; 2112-10.
.
.
I didn't take a before picture in the bathroom, but here's what the cabinets looked like right before we started painting:
.
.
We first started by priming all the cabinets with Zinsser Cover Stain Primer. Maybe it was just us, but we had a hard time applying the primer. With all the grooves in the cabinets it was hard to get good coverage. We used a combination of rollers and brushes to apply the primer.
.
.
All primed:
.
.
And all painted:
.
.
Isn't that a great color?
.
I love the new hardware my Mom picked out.
.
.
See the trim to the left in the picture below? That's our next painting project.
.
.
.
I know my Mom is happy to have the old, outdated stain gone!
.
Have you painted cabinets before? Do you have any tips?
.
hi Alissa, your mom's cabinets look great. i love the color she chose and the hardware is gorgeous too. i recently painted my bathroom cabinets using an oil based paint. the paint had such a strong odor and took forever to dry.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous...love the color!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing! Love the color and hardware that she picked. I painted all of my kitchen cabinets back in November and it was the WORST project EVER!
ReplyDeleteLove them, turned out beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love how rich the color is. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeletehuge improvement...its amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the primer, But I find all oil based primers seem to handle the same way. It looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI am hoping to convince my landlords to let me paint our sad kitchen cabinets this summer!
The cabinets in my guest bathroom are painted cream and I want to update them but I'm not sure what color they should be. I've thought about brown or navy but haven't made my mind up yet! Your mom's cabinets look great!
ReplyDeleteAlissa, thank you for sharing this! Your weekend project was time well spent. The new color and feel of the cabinets looks great! It was so nice of you to help your mom with this. :) And I love that you explained what products you used, etc. This is something I've been wanting to do in my guest bathroom (and kitchen, truth be told) but I have been too intimidated to try it. I've redone two pieces of furniture with pretty solid success. So, I have a basis with which to work, and your post is giving me the courage! I might just take a whack at it. :)
ReplyDeletep.s. So, you just painted over the background ... the front base of the cabinet that shows in between the drawers/doors? Did you use a little roller for that or would you suggest a different tool? Also, I'm assuming you primed that first, as well, right? Just checking. I want to make sure I have the system correctly in mind. Thanks!!
ReplyDeletewow! what a difference paint makes! they look brand new. xoxo jillian:: cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteThey look great! Love the color :)
ReplyDeleteWOW! This is an awesome transformation! It looks amazing! I need to paint our kitchen hutch...I'll be following your tips!
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome! I love DIY projects, make me feel so accomplished lol.
ReplyDeleteYou guys did a great job! I'm going to start on the kitchen soon. At least the priming part. I'd like to get a sprayer to do the doors. I just don't have a lot of room for spraying!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I love the hardware and the color choice! Painting cabinets is the worst f'sure.
ReplyDeletewow, what a great transformation!
ReplyDeletegreat job - it looks awesome! I painted my kitchen cabinets and used the same primer - I found it quite runny but once I got a couple of thin coats on, the paint did stick nicely. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, great job there. I love the new look.
