Fall Decorating in the Dining Room

{This post is sponsored by the Home Depot}

We are halfway through September already.  Can you believe it?  You know what that means - pumpkins, apple cider, cozy blankets, cooler nights, and Fall decorating!  I kicked off my Fall decorating last weekend with a great DIY project from The Home Depot - A Rustic Pumpkin Stand from their DIH Workshops.

I love how my stand turned out!  The project involved using a jig saw (my first time using one!) and was super simple to put together.  The fun part was deciding how to finish it off.  I chose to stain it using Minwax's Classic Gray #271 stain.  Then I applied a metallic wax finish to finish it off.

I placed the stand in an area in our dining room and filled it with cut mum stems.  I don't think there is a flower that symbolizes Fall more than the mum!

I think it's pretty cool that The Home Depot offers these workshops.  The Home Depot offers Workshops at all of their locations for do-it-yourselfers of all ages and experience levels.

There are three types of Workshops offered - Do-It-Yourself (DIY), Do-It-Herself (DIH) and kids.  Customers can learn how to build decor projects, how to make easy home repairs and how to operate tools through demonstrations and step-by-step instructions.  Visit The Home Depot to learn more.

The Home Depot's Workshops are designed to provide a mix of associate-led instruction, demonstration, and some hands-on learning.  Materials can be purchased to make your own project.  For more information, contact your local Home Depot Store.

I had so much fun building the pumpkin stand, I decided to also build a box to use as a centerpiece on our dining room table.

I finished it the same way as the pumpkin stand and then filled it up with pumpkins, gourds, candles, and greenery.

The table is set and all ready for Fall.

I kept it simple - pumpkins and squash in white and green (surprise, surprise) to tie in with the pumpkin stand, and just a touch of orange in the napkins.

Here's a close up of the finish on the pumpkin stand.  I really like how it turned out!

Big thanks to The Home Depot for sponsoring this post!  I had a lot of fun working on the pumpkin stand, and now, I think I can say that I am officially ready for Fall.

  1. Beautiful, as always. I love the 'understated' festive-ness (NOT orange EVERYWHERE). :) I have a similar box on our table that needs a Fall-makeover, might need to do something similar..!!

  8. I love that Home Depot host classes and workshops every month. My first one was a class teaching tile installation and that was over 8 years ago. Your planter turned out beautiful and I especially love your centerpiece! Absolutely gorgeous!
