Happy Monday! Can you believe that Christmas is this week? I can't! It doesn't help that we've had incredibly mild temperatures and no snow on the ground. In fact, we've only had one snowfall so far this year and the snow only lasted a couple of days before it warmed up and melted. I'm not complaining - dry roads and above average temps are OK by me!
I made a batch of Christmas Stove-top Potpourri this weekend to hand out to family and friends. I think they make a great last minute gift for neighbors, work friends, and hostess gifts. Also, who wouldn't enjoy a house filled with the scents of Christmas!
Because of our mild temps, my rosemary plant in the garden is still going strong! It's actually huge. I was able to pick a large amount of sprigs to use for the stove-top potpourri. Hard to believe for the end of December!
Supplies:
- Quart size mason jars
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 bay leaves
- 1 tablespoon dried orange peel
- 1 tablespoon whole cloves
- 1 tablespoon whole allspice berries
- 1-2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
- 1 cup fresh cranberries
- 1 lemon
- 1 clementine or orange (an orange might be hard to fit in the jars, so I used clementines)
- Ribbon
- Labels ( PRINT HERE )
Please note - the amounts listed above are what I added to one jar. Multiply the amount by the number of jars you'd like to make.
Add the bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, orange peel, cloves, allspice berries, followed by the rosemary, cranberries, and finally, the citrus fruit.
Close up the jars and add a decorative ribbon and labels.
Have a very Merry Christmas!
I LOVE this idea! I am sure it smells really good. I am going to make it for myself and plan to gift it next year! Do you make your own dried orange peel or is easy to find? Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Jane -
DeleteI bought all of the spices at a health food store that sells them in bulk - they had the dried orange peel! I wasn't planning on using it, but once I saw it, I thought it would be a nice addition. Merry Christmas!
Could you use dried/dehydrated cranberries as well!?!? Thinkong this is a great Teacher Gift!
ReplyDeleteHi Jessica - I’ve never tried that but I’m sure it would work. Just might not look as pretty in the jars. I do keep my jars in the refrigerator after I make them and they keep for a couple of weeks if not longer if that’s your concern with fresh cranberries. Hope that helps!
DeleteHi! Do you think these will keep until Christmas if we package them today? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Alison! Yes, absolutely! Just put them in the refrigerator after you make them. I’ve kept them in the fridge for a couple of weeks with no problem. Merry Christmas!
DeleteHi! Where are the tags from!?
ReplyDeleteHi there! I made the tags. You can download the printable for free in the link I share in the post. Hope that helps :)
DeleteLove love! Made these as little gifts for friends! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLove!! I'm making this for my coworkers. Could you link or point me in the direction to where you found the paper used for your tags? And how did you add the grommet to it?
ReplyDeleteHi Samantha! I can’t remember for sure where I got the paper but Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, and JoAnn’s all sell sheets of scrapbook paper by the sheet - try one of those! For the grommets I have a mini grommet tool that makes them. Check one of the craft stores! I’ve made these jars every year since the original post and I don’t think I used the grommets again - just a mini hole punch. It looks just as cute :)
